...Just a bit of hand drill practice this morning with my willowherb (fireweed) spindle on a clematis hearth.
.
...You've got to pick the thickest stem you can find for this as theres a lot of shrinkage & keep tweaking it staight as it dries as they become vey brittle when totally dry.

...That being said if you find the right piece they're one of the best UK native hand drills I've come across but have something ready to extend the ember as it's very fast burning.
