...The yucca plant I took some leaves from to use for a fire roll wasn't in the best of health so I decided to sacrifice it in the name of experimentation.
.
...The flower stalks, when dry, make great hand drill spindles so I had the idea that maybe the woody main stem of the plant maybe suitable for a reverse fire saw. I cut it down to a suitable length then let it dry after which I split it & hollowed out the fibrous inside to expose the solid outer wall.

...It wasn't quite as thick as I would of liked & the first attempt ended with it splitting in two. On my second attempt I chose a slightly thicker section & after sawing away & not seeing too much smoke I stopped to check it  & to my surprise I had already got ignition.

...I had to use a bamboo blade for this but I'm pretty sure if you had a long enough piece of yucca you could get it to work too.
