...#toptipsontuesdays again and this week I want to share another variation on the stepped hearth called the key hole hearth.

...This method actually requires no preparation. Unlike the stepped hearth, where you have to cut out a step,  with this technique you literally drill straight into the hearth. Alternating between overlapping divots you keep drilling down until the ember forms in the adjacent divot.

...As with the stepped hearth the advantages are there is no ember pan required, the ember is away from the ground so it can't get effected by the damp ground & it also has some wind protection too.
