Customising a Matchbox MB246 Formula 1, in the Matchbox range from 1993 until 1998.

I'm a bit of a Formula 1 nut, so I've been looking forward to doing something with a Matchbox MB246 casting for some time. While I really like the livery this one originally carried which was the 1993 Sauber C12 of JJ Lehto, I wanted to replicate the design of one of my favourite F1 teams that you may not have heard of.

As a young boy I remember distinctly watching motorsport VHS videos. While I didn't necessarily understand what was going on, I was glued to the screen because of the vibrant colours of certain racing cars, namely the March cars of the late 80s. These were sponsored by Leyton House, a Japanese real estate company whose name the team would adopt in 1990. I've recreated their iconic turquoise livery of the 1990 car, the CG901. It was so close to achieving victory at the 1990 French Grand Prix but driver Ivan Capelli had to concede the lead to Alain Prost in his Ferrari in the closing laps due to a misfire.

This casting came in a huge array of liveries of cars from the 1993 and 1994 Formula One World Championship seasons. However, it was never originally called the "Formula 1." It was initially called the Williams-Renault FW14B replicating the 1992 World Championship winning car of Nigel Mansell. It would later have its name changed to the generic Formula 1 name.
