The designer of the Alfa Romeo Carabo concept car died this year. He was Marcelo Gandini and I actually started working on this diecast model of his work the day before he passed. I'm a bit delayed in putting it out, but this video serves as a tribute to the legendary designer.
The Alfa Romeo Carabo was unveiled at the 1968 Turin Motor Show and was one of six cars to be based on the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. Only 18 Stradales were built and five chassis were used on concept cars. The Carabo was the first car to have scissor doors fitted and set a style precedent for years to come with its iconic wedge shape. It pre-dated Gandini's later wedge shaped works including the Lancia Stratos Zero and the Lamborghini Countach. He would of course go on to design some truly iconic cars, but the Carabo was very much a turning point.
Matchbox weren't alone in creating a 1/64 scale diecast Carabo. Corgi also added one to their Rockets and later Juniors ranges, with the Juniors car also sporting the same pink and yellow livery as the Superfast car. Lesney would keep the Carabo in production for five years between 1971 and 1976, though it would never replicate the iridescent green colour of the concept.

![MATCHBOX Inter-State Double Freighter restoration
Restoring a Lesney Matchbox Major Pack M9 Inter-State Double Freighter, in the Major Pack range from 1962 until 1967.
This has to be my favourite Matchbox Major Pack model. It joined the series in 1962 and remained until the range was dropped in 1967. The Cooper-Jarrett M9 Inter-State Double Freighter set was full of components that made it a huge favourite. It consisted of a Hendrickson truck cab, a pair of matching trailers, and a dolly that joined the two trailers together.
My casting had all of the key components but it was missing the opening rear doors on both trailers. It also need reproduction Cooper-Jarrett decals, and fixes to a bent pillar and crushed rooftop horn on the cab. The double-wide plastic wheels were tricky to refit to the axles but they really make this model for me. They were later dropped in favour of twin regular width wheels, but these look far worse in my opinion.
I couldnt find out any real specifics about the Hendrickson cabover truck but I did find out some details about the Cooper-Jarrett company which I explore in the video. The tandem trucks really did exist, though few photos of the units can be found online. I found a grand total of two!

![HUSKY restoration: 19A Commer Walk-Thru Van
Restoring a Husky 19A Commer Walk-Thru Van, in the range from 1965 until 1969.
This weeks challenge was to resurrect this neglected Husky casting. It is a 19A Commer Walk-Thru Van, the first Husky to feature a metal base. Most were painted yellow, though some late models had red bodies to match the red plastic doors. Equally, most had light grey painted bases but some later examples had plated metal bases. All had the bright blue transparency and dark grey plastic wheels with suspension provided by a small tube placed above the axles. They were produced for four years between 1965 and 1969.
Commers inventively-named Walk-Thru Van was introduced in 1961 as the replacement for the BF van, though that would continue on in production until 1966. The premise was a 1.5, 2 or 3 ton van where the driver had access to the rear compartment directly from the cabin, meaning there was no need to get out of the vehicle to access the back. Commer did also produce chassis versions meaning the Walk-Thru could simply be a cab that couldnt be walked through at all! They were produced up until 1979 and could be found badged as Dodges later on in life.
My example had been dunked in blue paint and every surface had been affected. The paint had caused the transparency to warp, so I had to raid a donor model that I had initially sought to replace one of the missing sliding doors. Sadly it appears there are no reproduction parts produced for these quite yet. But after a lovely fresh coat of yellow and some elbow grease removing the leftover paint, the result on this model is one Im really fond of.
