CORGI JUNIORS 33-B E Type Jaguar 2+2 custom
The Jaguar E-Type is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars ever built. Introduced in 1961, the E-Type combined stunning styling with impressive performance, helping to cement Jaguar’s reputation throughout the 1960s. The 2+2 variant arrived later, offering additional rear seating and improved practicality while retaining the iconic long bonnet and flowing lines that made the E-Type famous.
This Corgi Juniors E-Type 2+2 has roots that stretch beyond the launch of the brand, being introduced under the Husky brand in 1968. That casting represented an early Series 1 E-Type. Following Mettoy’s acquisition of Husky, the model was reworked and reissued as part of the Corgi Juniors range, with modifications made to better resemble the later Series 2 E-Type, including changes to the front end and other details.
This particular example was kindly donated to the channel by Marcus, but unfortunately it had suffered from a rather heavy-handed repaint sometime during its life. I decided to address what I feel is the casting’s biggest flaw: its wheel placement. The original wheel and axle arrangement leaves the wheels sitting far too wide, protruding beyond the bodywork, which is especially noticeable on a car renowned for its elegant inboard proportions.
After stripping the paint back to bare metal, I modified the base to accept a new set of wider wire-spoke wheels. These not only fill the wheel arches more realistically but also sit much further inboard, giving the model a stance far closer to that of the real E-Type. With the engineering work complete, the body was refinished in a deep dark blue before receiving extensive detail painting, including the chrome trim, bumpers, window surrounds and other brightwork. The interior was also refinished in a glossy black to replicate a classic leather finish.
