Early March 2026 had an event for Kirby Air Riders—like the last couple of events, this one is held in City Trian, and this one is themed on Revenge of Meta Knight, one of the games found within Kirby Super Star. Things pertaining to that game are featured here: the Halberd will appear more often, the Meta Knight themed Shadow Star will show up everywhere around Skyah, Meta Knight himself has higher attack power (hence this event being full of players who selected him), and all matches will have the “Meta Knight’s Revenge” theme from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
In addition, all Stadiums include Big Battle and Dustup Derby to complement Meta Knight’s advantage. One of the others will always be a race (Gourmet Race included), and the fourth possible option is randomly chosen from all other Stadiums. I suppose because of the Shadow Star’s high attack power, Big Battle and Dustup Derby will tend to be the recommended Stadiums regardless of your powerups by the end.
I played more during this event, because even with these favorable conditions, it was amazingly hard to actually get on the Halberd. I kept trying until I did. As a result, this video is longer than my usual Kirby Air Ride videos, being nearly an hour long.
00:22 - Match #1
City Trial
Character: Susie
Stadium: Dustup Derby 2
We also had a Dustup Derby during the City Trial match itself—I knew it wasn’t going to go well when I failed to find any of the treasure chest keys (I’m guessing one of them was located below me). But it’s worth going there anyway because getting to the reception area gets you powerups, and all participants get more powerups. I just noticed during this event that the top 5 highest scores are seen on the bottom left in the Stadium Dustup Derby. Looks like Sword doesn’t do that much damage, but Steel Ball hits hard?
08:05 - Match #2
City Trial
Character: Gooey
Stadium: Oval Circuit
The game kept recommending me Dustup Derby and Big Battle, so I wondered: since I have a high Top Speed stat here, would I be better off racing instead? And it seems the answer was “yes.” So from there on out, I stopped following what the game recommended of me, as it seems to be based mostly on your machine by the end. When 80% or more of the participants are using the same machine, the recommendation system might not work quite as well. (Then again, I was using the Wheelie Bike, and it still recommended me Dustup Derby and Big Battle.)
14:52 - Match #3
City Trial
Character: Waddle Dee
Stadium: Gourmet Race
You know, I thought you were invincible as the Steel Ball. I didn’t know the big giant laser could still damage you (though you’re not slowed down by it). I only hopped onto the Vampire Star because it was a full-health machine nearby when my HP was running low, but the way it automatically attacks anyone who touches you and steals collected food from them is very helpful. I wonder if Daroach has similar advantages in Gourmet Race.
22:05 - Match #4
City Trial
Character: Marx
Stadium: Single Race (Cavernous Corners)
On the flip side, here is a longer race where I was outclassed in the same way despite having a high Top Sped stat. Because they weren’t recommended though, they have fewer participants and thus even placing last means you rank pretty high. Also, don’t think I wasn’t trying to board the Halberd—I was looking for a path to get there. I think it cannot be done without first traveling away from the Halberd.
29:19 - Match #5
City Trial
Character: Scarfy
Stadium: Big Battle 1
So this is what a Big Battle is like…I was able to get a lot of Bomb attacks, which apparently are incredibly good in Big Battle, and get a score of 8 knockouts. Still not enough for 1st place though. Maybe if I didn’t miss that Mic Copy Ability…
36:59 - Match #6
City Trial
Character: Waddle Doo
Stadium: Oval Circuit
I guess Oval Circuit was the Stadium for me during this event. I also thought that the Winged Star would be my ticket aboard the Halberd, but I still hadn’t figured out the right route onto it.
44:09 - Match #7
City Trial
Character: Cappy
Stadium: Single Race (Beanstalk Park)
THERE we go—for the first time, I was able to board the Halberd. No notification that I got on though? That was also quite the attack towards the start, losing my machine AND getting the one I was going for taken from me as I was approaching it. Then another one. Is this something people do?
51:09 - Match #8
Character: Daroach
Stadium: Dustup Derby 5
I…sort of got on the Halberd again. Maybe grazed the underside of its wing. Does that count? (I also hadn’t defeated anyone in a Dustup Derby City Trial event until now?)

![Pokémon Champions - Introducing the Beartic Team! - Jul 12 26 A
I don’t know if I’ll make it a recurring thing or not, but I’m introducing teams in pairs in Pokémon Champions, one for double battling and one for single battling. Only a fool would think you can use the same team for both (but I’ve seen no shortage of single battling teams brought to double battling and vice versa). This one has more of an interconnectedness between its team members, but I find that it only makes the team harder to use in Team Preview: if the plan fails and/or is countered, you are pretty much done for.
BEARTIC - Juno - from “Juneau,” the capital of Alaska (has nothing to do with the Beastars character named Juno)
DECIDUEYE (HISUIAN) - Fletcher - from “fletching,” the feather part of an arrow; a “fletcher” is a person who sells arrows
DRAGALGE - Laverne - from “laver,” a type of seaweed, the same nickname as in Scarlet/Violet
BASTIODON - Castilla - from “castle”
SLOWKING (GALARIAN) - Socrates - associated with high intelligence; Poison connection for association with hemlock
PYROAR - Leonardo - from “leo,” Latin for “lion”; same nickname as in Scarlet/Violet
I just like these two Mega Evolutions in particular, though I know Mega Pyroar doesn’t have many fans.
00:00 - Battle #1
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: Sanaaa
Battle Court: Gym Court
Music: Team MZ Showdown
My Pokémon: Socrates (Slowking) (Galarian), Juno (Beartic), Laverne (Dragalge)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Charizard, Hydrapple, Annihilape
This battle was an interesting start to this team…but it shows how two of my Pokémon work together to be better than the sum of their parts. I don’t know how often I’ll be able to keep doing this though.
But in any case, this is my answer to a plain and obvious weather-based team, as long as it isn’t snow. Seeing Mega Charizard X instead was not what I predicted though.
03:16 - Battle #2
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: R.I.P
Battle Court: Battle Arena
Music: Trainer (Ruby, Sapphire, & Emerald)
My Pokémon: Castilla (Bastiodon), Leonardo (Pyroar), Socrates (Slowking) (Galarian)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Meowscarada, Ceruledge, Metagross
I remember back in Pokémon Battle Revolution, occasionally seeing people with names like that. It was always humorously over-the-top edgy.
Also, Mega Pyroar’s Fire Mane doesn’t seem like much, but it’s no joke! Too bad it lost Earth Power…
06:24 - Battle #3
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: ロキ (Loki)
Battle Court: Battle Arena
Music: Jacinthe
My Pokémon: Fletcher (Decidueye) (Hisuian), Leonardo (Pyroar), Juno (Beartic)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Incineroar, Dragonite, Metagross
I get my opponent’s plan here: knowing I’d likely pick Pyroar (and I did), eliminate it before Metagross turns up on the field. The previous battle showed what happens when Mega Metagross has to stand there in the way of a Fire-type attack from a Mega Pyroar; this opponent was not taking that chance.
By the way, there are three separate effects of Hisuian Decidueye’s signature move, Triple Arrows: an increased chance of a critical hit (by one stage, 12.5% chance with no other modifiers), lowering the opponents Defense by one stage (50% chance), and flinch (30% chance). I picked Hisuian Decidueye on my team in part because it’s fun to see which ones trigger.
Also, is it me, or was this Incineroar missing Intimidate? (Blast Burn hitting would’ve still made it a tough customer!)
10:43 - Battle #4
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: [SR•G]
Battle Court: Battle Arena
Music: Trainer (Scarlet & Violet)
My Pokémon: Socrates (Slowking) (Galarian), Juno (Beartic), Leonardo (Pyroar)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Snorlax, Dragonite, Rotom (Fan)
I don’t see many Fan Rotoms, compared to the large number of Wash and Heat Rotoms. Not sure what they had planned with it, but Dragonite is near impossible to take out in one hit—short of one-hit techiques like Sheer Cold or Destiny Bond, this is the closest I’ve seen.
14:02 - Battle #5
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: しょこたん (Shoko-tan)
Battle Court: Battle Court
Music: Friend (X & Y)
My Pokémon: Fletcher (Deciduye) (Hisuian), Castilla (Bastiodon), Laverne (Dragalge)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Espeon, Umbreon, Flareon
This is the most common themed team I find, one made of Eeveelutions. There are eight of them in all, so two would be excluded. In this case, they were Jolteon and Glaceon. They have a bit of a disadvantage in that they cannot Mega Evolve, but Eevee does get a Z-Move of its own, as well as a Gigantamax and corresponding G-Max Move.
My opponent is named after the host of Pokémon Sunday. I don’t know if this is actually her though. Pokémon Champions - Introducing the Beartic Team! - Jul 12 26 A](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/v9t8QL_VP5Q/mqdefault.jpg)
