I visited Khao Yai National Park in the daytime and nighttime and saw the largest squirrel in Thailand (Black Giant Squirrel), Great Hornbills, the White-Handed Gibbon and Pileated Gibbon, a Viper, a Monitor Lizard eating a deer, an Oriental Scops Owl, a Sambar deer, Pig-Tail Macaques (monkeys), a Wreathed Hornbill, a Barking Deer, the Visitor Center, the Haew Suwt Waterfall made famous in the 2000 Leonardo DiCaprio movie The Beach, Pheasants, a Civet Cat, a Nyjer (bird), and monkeys with babies. Khao Yai was the first national park in Thailand and it covers 772 square miles (2,000 square kilometers) of forest and grassland, along with diverse wildlife. There is a 30% chance you will see wild elephants but the closest we came was seeing elephant footprints on the road. Despite not seeing the elephants, I was thrilled to see so much wildlife!
