Kevin Costner Says His Film 'Horizon' Will 'Play For The Next 50 Years' Despite Its Box Office Flop

Kevin Costner is proud of "Horizon," even though the film received bad reviews and did poorly at the box office.

Because of the first installment's failure, the second "Horizon" movie was taken off of the August theater schedule. Nevertheless, in September, it will make its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Having invested over $38 million in the saga's development, Kevin Costner stands to gain significantly from its success.

Following the failure of his film "Horizon" at the box office, Kevin Costner defends it.

Notwithstanding the unfavorable reviews for the first installment of the four-part Western drama, Costner is expressing his pride in his "Horizon" film project.

The actor discussed the franchise with E! News, saying that although he is accustomed to people being "dismissive" of him and his work, he is confident that the movie will leave a lasting impression.

"I've experienced people disregarding me in life," he remarked. However, they are unable to disregard "Horizon" because it is now beyond their control. And while they may look to the box office result as the finish line, I'm aware that this film will be seen for the next 50 years."

According to Costner, this is the kind of film that parents will be watching with their kids in the future. He characterized the story as "not just a Western, it's a history of migration and what they had to do to survive" and asserted that it would assist them in "understanding that this is what their [ancestors] went through."

September 7 is the premiere date for the sequel.

The second Horizon movie was taken out of August's theater schedule following the first movie's underwhelming box office success in order to give the project more time to develop an audience.

On September 7, the Venice Film Festival, where the first film will also be screened, is where "Horizon 2" will not have its international debut.

Regarding the global premiere, Costner said in an interview with E! News that it was a "nice development."

They recognize that it's a saga, he said. That section is just how I had envisioned. I always thought that the releases would come out every four or six weeks instead of six weeks. However, the studio perceived a chance and believed it had potential. That's not how I feel now."

Kevin Costner Is Still Dedicated To Developing Horizons 3 And 4.

Even though "Horizon 1" did not perform well at the box office and "Horizon 2" was taken out of the August theater schedule, Costner appears to be committed to bringing chapters three and four of the franchise to life.

He made a hint in a May interview that he would continue making his films even if "Horizon 1" didn't find much audience.

"Well, the reality of that is the film lives and whatever are the viewing habits," he stated at the time, according to Deadline. For the duration of its existence, it is mine. And provide them worldwide licenses every five years. Here in America, relicense them."

The distinction is that, as a result of the risk I took, I own that," Costner went on. "What makes Vegas there? It's for everyone who falls short against the house. Why are such studios located there? It's because those films generate revenue long beyond their premiere weekends."

No information has been released on "Horizon 2's" theatrical release date as of yet. Furthermore, the distribution rights to the third and fourth films were not acquired by Warner Bros. and New Line, indicating that Costner could need to look for other partners.

Much Money Was Invested by the Actor in the Films.

The first movie in the "Horizon" saga made less than half of its projected $100 million budget when it made its Cannes Film Festival premiere in May.

The Numbers claims that the movie only made $1.4 million in foreign ticket sales, which contributed to its $28.4 million global box office total.

Given that he has confirmed the claims that he personally invested in the movie' production, Costner has a lot riding on the success of the story.

"I know they say I got $20 million of my own money in this movie," he said to GQ. It is untrue. As of right now, the film has roughly $38 million. That is the actuality. That is the actual figure.

As a result of his involvement in "Yellowstone," which will resume later this year for the second half of its last season without him, Costner also sustained collateral harm. The actor has refuted rumors that he rejected his obligations to "Yellowstone" in favor of the Horizon films.
