In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ford was asked if, considering their shared past and the fact that he plays Costner's ancestor, he had been in touch with the actor.

Ford gave the above explanation for his decision to keep his opinions regarding franchise creator Taylor Sheridan and his work uninfluenced by Costner or any other actor in the cast. Furthermore, Ford's statements further substantiate that Sheridan and Costner's supposed animosity was not a factor in his decision to avoid getting in touch with the latter, as the Star Wars star believed the two got along well.

Apparently putting an end to speculations of a falling out with Sheridan, Costner recently stated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he would like to work with Sheridan again in the future, either on a new project or anything unrelated to Yellowstone.
"He is quite prolific in his endeavors, and if he sees me in something he wants to do, I'll approach it the same way I approached Yellowstone, and who knows, maybe we'll end up working on something together."
With the aforementioned remark, Costner suggested that he and Sheridan got along well in spite of Yellowstone season 5's delays. Costner did add, though, that he had not discussed the last few episodes of Yellowstone with Sheridan.
Regarding Sheridan, the producer declared in June 2023 that while he was grateful to Costner for his work on Yellowstone, he was disappointed that his character's story could not be concluded to his satisfaction.
