Kevin Costner Upset Over ‘Horizon’ Being Called ‘A Passion Project’
To be honest, I referred to Kevin Costner's Horizon as a "passion project." To be fair, the man is serious about this movie—he started working on it in 1988! Even if Costner has a reputation for being a little stubborn, you don't work on something for more than 30 years just to be obstinate.
However, it seems that he is reluctant to acknowledge that he has interests outside of banana milkshakes. Costner wasn't really pleased when critics and fans referred to Horizon: An American Saga Part 1 as a passion project.
Costner told AARP that "calling it that actually minimizes it." He continued by saying that he is enthusiastic about everything he does. Does Yellowstone fall under that category? Who knows?
"I've been passionate about a lot of things that I've done," he continued. This notion of America is commendable. People moved to the west. It is a relic from our past. I simply invested money in it because I believed in it so strongly, but I've always believed in everything in my life.
How come it took so long? Perhaps his enthusiasm waned when no one was willing to finance the costly franchise. I ordered a screenplay in 1988, and after much tinkering, we made an attempt to produce it in 2003. However, I demanded more money than the studio was prepared to give. I felt let down. I then got down to write with a fresh writer, and we started working together. And we started to rework and expand everything," he clarified. That is fervor!
Horizon: An American Epic Part 1 debuted in theaters earlier this summer, however Part 2 will not be shown in theaters because of negative reviews and a weak box office opening. Fortunately, Costner is indifferent! "Movies aren't just about opening weekend," he stated. A good movie will be spoken about ten years later. Success is: Are you going to look at it again and show your son and daughter? Will you go back to it because you have questions or because you discover fresh information? These are the steps.
A decade from now, it's questionable if anyone will still be watching Horizon, but hey, cult masterpieces come out every day. You can never be sure what will be relevant in ten years. Until then, all we can really do is hope that at least three more Minions films will have been released.
