After Kevin Costner’s Horizon Flopped And Chapter 2 Was Delayed, Is Chapter 3 Happening? What He Says

Since Chapter One's publication in June, Kevin Costner's Horizon epic has taken readers on a bit of an emotional journey. The saga's debut movie bombed, and Chapter 2's August 2024 release date was postponed. Given this, some people would be curious about the future of this emerging franchise. Having said that, Costner is now being honest about whether or not Chapter 3 will truly happen at this time.

Kevin Costner previously provided information on Chapters 3 and 4, stating that the former's filming had already begun. Additionally, he hoped to film that picture immediately after Part 4 in the spring. However, during Horizon 2's Venice International Film Festival premiere, Costner (via EW) stated that there was a stronger sense of urgency to complete that threequel:

I have to move quickly so the rock doesn't slide back downward. I need to go grab it once more and begin pushing it upward. I am unable to release this rope. Right now, I have no idea how I'm going to make three, but I will.

Speaking about the aforementioned emotions, Kevin Costner was "visibly emotional." Given that this saga has been his passion endeavor, one may understand that. The actor from Yellowstone reportedly invested $38 million of his personal funds in the four-part show, which he came up with in 1988. He has therefore been extremely guarded about this endeavor. In order to experience the Western on a large screen, he didn't even want Chapter One to be released straight to streaming services.

The Field of Dreams actor said in Venice that he didn't allow Chapter One's poor box office performance during its first weekend affect him. That's because he knows that a lot of beloved films had a rough beginning. Despite this, he was still determined to carry out his original plan to release the Horizon films five or six months apart. That ultimately changed when Warner Bros. decided to reschedule the release date of Horizon: Chapter Two, according to the Man of Steel actor.

Kevin Costner surmised that Chapter One's $36.1 million global box office gross, which exceeded its $50 million budget, was the reason for Chapter Two's delay. Not to mention that the Western wasn't well received by reviewers, who dubbed it a "incoherent disaster" or a "full-on cinematic experience." Even though the story has encountered some obstacles along the way, Costner is determined to continue his big-screen series:

There are moments when we want to give up when things don't come to us effortlessly. Something about me only makes me want more when something isn't working. I've convinced myself, especially in my own mind, that it's a tale and an entertaining work of fiction that will endure. So I'm just like everyone else when I experience rejection. But my yearning has only grown when I emerge from my disappointment and open my eyes. That's the way I've motivated myself.

To put it mildly, the future of Horizon: Chapter 3 seems a little unclear right now. If Kevin Costner's most recent remarks indicate anything, it's that he still has the will and resilience to complete the task he began. It will take time to see if he and Warner Bros. can do that in the end.
