Kevin Costner's "Yellowstone" comeback still uncertain: He is focusing on new horizons
The actor who played John Dutton in the popular television series "Yellowstone," Kevin Costner, has stunned fans with his most recent professional decision. Costner hinted over the weekend that he is now completely focused on other endeavors, most notably his film series "Horizon: An American Saga," raising doubts about his potential return to the adored Western drama.
"Working on Part 3 of the #HorizonAmericanSaga once again." It's hard to realize that in less than a month, Part 1 will open in theaters. Announcing his dedication to the new initiative, Costner said, "I hope you'll go and see what we've put together for you."
The announcement coincides with a flurry of rumors regarding Costner's potential exit from "Yellowstone." Insiders indicate it's unlikely he'll return to the show he's starred in since 2018. His involvement in the last episodes is still up in the air.
Costner refutes reports of conflict on the set.
Steeped in the world crafted by co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan, Costner decided to film five seasons instead of the original three.
"I simply had faith in the world. It was a soap opera, I knew that. I knew we ought to be all behind bars. There, we've all killed folks. Thus, you somewhat disregard logic," Costner stated on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast.
But there is a cloud over Costner's exit due to rumors of a falling out with Sheridan. Early in 2023, rumors circulated that Costner was delaying the second half of Yellowstone season 5 because he wasn't happy with the schedule for filming.
Despite this, Costner has strongly refuted these claims, blaming delays on things like a shortage of screenplays and outside events like the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. "That's not true," Costner disputed to Deadline, denying rumors that his work on "Horizon" hampered the development of "Yellowstone". "A script wasn't present. Then everything fell apart."
The actor is still open to making a return.
Costner hasn't entirely ruled out a comeback to the TV series despite the turbulence. He said, "If the writing's there and I'm happy with it, I'm open to that," but he was disappointed by the lack of response during the media flurry. "I'm not content with that. However, I'll be there as well provided the writing is present."
The fifth season of "Yellowstone" is about to conclude, but the show will live on in a follow-up called "2024." The future of the program without Costner's John Dutton is still out in the air, leading viewers to speculate about how the plot will change and whether there will be a chance for a goodbye appearance from the man who came to represent the show's success.
For the time being, it's evident that Kevin Costner is devoting his attention to "Horizon," which may mean the passing of a certain period for "Yellowstone" devotees but also the beginning of a new phase in the renowned actor's career.
