Somewhere around the 90's the upright row exercise was deemed unsafe and risky for the shoulders? But is this true? Well, kind of.

Done traditionally it certainly can be problematic for the shoulder. With some modifications, it can be made fairly safe and be an excellent way to build the side delts.
