In this video our Host Albert Howell learns how to split perennials or another term is divide your plants from our expert Carson Arthur.
STEPS:
1. Dig a circle around the plant.
2. Lift the plant out.
3. Grab by the dirt so you don’t rip the plant out of the soil.
4. Split in half using a shovel or trowel.
5. You can make two plants from one and it helps save money in the garden.
6. Pick off slugs from plants as they feed off plant.
7. Put beer around plants because bugs like beer and will be
attracted to it.
8. Wrap copper wire around bottom of plant to keep slugs away. It’s
a natural deterrent.
9. Place one half of plant back into the hole.
10. Autumn is a great time to split plants because it’s not hot out.
