Side Lateral Raises and Variations (no anchor)
As per many other movements previously demonstrated, choose the level of resistance band you want to use and secure it safely under a foot. Raise the bands out to the side slightly to create tension in the starting phase of the movement and execute the side lateral from there.
To create a variation in plane of motion function, just merely step through the planted leg so that the band is now under the trailing foot instead of out in front. This changes the plane of motion slightly and the angle of contraction. And this can affect fiber recruitment.
I suggest changing the plant foot each set and you can even alternate from the step through variation to the foot in front variation, set to set.
I like using both variations – and once again, since using bands for my shoulder exercises my shoulder mobility has improved drastically.
As with other previously demonstrated exercises, before moving to the next level resistance bands; if you want to increase tension more gradually – then just secure the bands under both feet instead of one.
As an added bonus, I demonstrate that if you want to increase the ROM, you can do single arm lateral raises as well, which ted to allow you to begin at a lower angle and raise to a higher position.
Once you get used to training with bands and ‘pumping rubber’ you will love the alternative feel they provide.
