TV Show Themes, part 3 of 4
Singer-songwriter and musician Gary Portnoy co-wrote and performed this well-known theme song of the hit NBC TV series "Cheers" that was about a bar in Boston and its numerous clientele. The show ran for 11 seasons, airing from 1982 to 1993, and was followed by an even more successful spin-off, "Frasier", which became one of my all-time favorite TV shows. "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" was released as a single and went to #83 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1984; the song also went to #28 on the Adult Contemporary chart and at #58 on the UK Pop chart. The chart positions were somewhat disappointing for me, as I really liked this theme, making it another of those singles that I thought deserved to be a bigger hit.
