The English duo composed of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt initially released this single in 1994 and the original version as it appeared on their "Amplified Heart" album managed to peak at #69 on the UK Pop chart. In 1995, the single was remixed by DJ and producer Todd Terry and was re-released; this uptempo dance version became a worldwide smash hit and headed the duo into the electronic dance music genre. "Missing" went to #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1996, and also went to #6 on the Adult Contemporary chart and became a #1 song on the Dance Singles Sales chart. Curiously though, the track never entered the Dance Club Play charts. In the UK, the remixed single went to #3 on the UK Pop chart, and was a #1 song in Canada. This is actually my favorite song from Everything But The Girl; I have lots of favorites from them but this for me is their best -- the original version was excellent, but the remix turned it into a masterpiece.
