On April 9, 2025. A male called the Columbus Police Department and reported that another vehicle tried to run him off the road 3 times before the driver pointed a pistol at him. Officers interviewed the victim who was able to provide the plate number of the vehicle, a description of the driver (Edward), as well as a detailed description of the firearm. Later in the day officers located the suspect driving and conducted a traffic stop.
Edward was asked to exit the vehicle and consented to a search. Edward explained that he got startled and swerved towards a vehicle that was speeding in a no passing zone. He stated that the other driver flipped him off but did not mention anything about a firearm. Another officer arrived and Edward mentioned that the other driver slowed down and pointed at him to pull over. Edward was asked if he pulled over or flipped off the other driver. He explained that he did not but stated “I pointed at him with my finger.” While speaking with Edward, he explained that he was a former correctional officer.
Officers explained that the other driver stated that he pointed a firearm at him and Edward continued to deny it. He gave officers permission to search his vehicle and told them where his firearm was located. The firearm was very similar to the one described by the victim and Edward finally admitted to pointing it at the other driver. He was informed that he was under arrest and was secured in a transport belt before being placed into a squad car.
Edward was booked into the Columbia County Jail on charges of intentionally pointing a firearm at another person, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct while armed, and carrying a concealed weapon. All charges were dismissed except for carrying a concealed weapon. Edward was found guilty of that charge and was ordered to pay a $579 fine.
