On February 24, 2025. Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a mobile home community for a male (Jesus) who called wishing to turn himself in on outstanding warrants. A Deputy responded to the area and called Jesus on the phone. He activated his body camera after Jesus said something along the lines of “show up and see what happens.” The Deputy who was speaking with Jesus on the phone had dealt with him approximately one week prior. During the contact a week prior, Jesus’s sister, who lived out of state had contacted law enforcement and indicated that he was threatening to kill family members and had made suicidal comments. After the conversation, deputies decided to not go to the residence right away and requested additional law enforcement to respond based upon Jesus’s statements and the incident the week prior.
Jesus called the deputy back and asked where he was. The Deputy asked the subject about any weapons on his person. Jesus responded with verbiage to the effect of “come find out.” The subject had made additional comments about shooting straight because there were kids in the area, and “I’m going to smoke you guys.” The subject then indicated he had an assault rifle and a Glock handgun on his person. Jesus then agreed to meet with deputies at a Dollar General store.
Two deputies responded to Jesus’s house and made contact with his mother. Ultimately, the mother was removed from the residence and secured at a friend’s place in the area. Law enforcement went to the Dollar General to get a visual of the subject. A deputy was able to spot Jesus walking into a BP gas station. Shortly thereafter, law enforcement received a call for a suspicious person with a weapon at the Dollar General. Law enforcement contacted the Dollar General and requested that they go into a lockdown. The deputy then indicated that Jesus left the BP gas station and had lost sight of him, but was last observed walking southbound toward the residence.
A police canine and a less lethal shotgun were obtained and law enforcement officers began walking towards the subject’s residence. A Deputy indicated out of the corner of his eye he observed a subject walking which matched the description of Jesus. Deputies shined a flashlight at Jesus causing him to look at them. At that time, a deputy took a position behind a parked car with his canine partner. Law enforcement commands were given to Jesus. A deputy indicated that Jesus pulled something black out of the front right side of his waistband with his right hand and placed that object behind his back. The deputy deployed a less lethal shotgun round toward the subject, which deputies believed impacted him. Jesus flinched and then swung his right arm out from behind his back. A Deputy observed a black object which he believed to be a handgun held in the subject's right hand. Deputies yelled "gun" multiple times before firing towards Jesus. Law enforcement continued to give commands to the subject. Deputies indicated that they could no longer see the gun from their position. Once other law enforcement officers arrived on scene, a team was formed which included a shield operator, a hands officer, a lethal officer and a less lethal officer. The subject was ultimately secured by other law enforcement officers and medical aid was provided. No law enforcement officers or members of the public were injured during this incident, and it was later determined that Jesus had pulled out an Airsoft gun. Life saving measures were attempted on scene and Jesus was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.
