On September 30, 2025. An officer from the Glendale Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle with no tail lights. As the officer activated his emergency lights, the vehicle entered the highway and refused to pull over. The pursuit was briefly terminated and the suspect exited the highway. Officers initiated another pursuit and performed a PIT Maneuver after the driver (Derrick) ran a red light but he was able to gain control of his vehicle and continued fleeing.
After Derrick ran multiple red lights, stop signs, and drove the wrong way down a one way street an officer successfully deployed spike strips on his vehicle. Shortly later, another PIT maneuver was performed and Derrick bailed from his vehicle on foot. An officer pursued after and ordered Derrick to get on the ground and advised him that he would get tased. He continued running and the officer deployed his taser and Derrick fell to the ground. He was secured in handcuffs where officers detected the odor of alcohol and noticed he had a laceration on his head from falling.
The Milwaukee Fire Department was called and provided medical care to Derrick. He was transported to the hospital in an ambulance and officers decided not to perform field sobriety tests due to Derrick's head injury. When asked if he would submit to a blood draw, Derrick refused to answer and officers were able to get a warrant for a blood draw.
The pursuit lasted approximately 6.8 miles and a search of the vehicle revealed 462 grams of marijuana. Derrick was found guilty for 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and Felony Bail Jumping. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison and 6 years of extended supervision.
