On July 18, 2026. The Walworth County Sheriff’s Department, the Bloomfield Police Department, and the Genoa City Police Department were notified by Illinois law enforcement that they were pursuing a stolen Audi approaching the Illinois-Wisconsin border. Shortly later, officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver (Brandon) refused to pull over and fled at speeds over 100 MPH. Brandon then abruptly stopped in the roadway before accelerating, running a stop sign at a T-intersection, and going off the road. Brandon crashed into an above ground natural gas line which immediately burst into flames.
A deputy on scene observed Brandon climb out of the rear window and run into a wooded area. Law enforcement established a perimeter and deployed a drone. A K9 was brought to the scene and Brandon was located after a short search. Brandon was given multiple commands to show his hands but he did not respond. The K9 was then deployed and bit his leg while deputies handcuffed him.
Brandon was then searched before being secured in a squad car and transported to the hospital for medical clearance. After several hours, We Energies successfully turned the natural gas off and the fire was able to be extinguished. It was later discovered that Brandon was the only occupant in the vehicle and he did not sustain any major injuries. He is currently facing charges for Operator Fleeing or Eluding an Officer resulting in Property Damage, 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, Reckless Driving Endangering Safety, OWI, Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed, Operating Without a Valid License, Failure to Obey Traffic Signal, and Failing to Stop at Stop Sign.
