On October 3, 2024. Officers from the Fennimore Police Department responded to a possible domestic dispute. The reporting party was a neighboring resident who heard loud screaming and could hear what they thought was someone punching a wall. Upon arrival, an officer spoke with a male who identified himself as Samuel. He advised that he and a roommate Janell were arguing about food stamps. Samuel mentioned that Janell often steals stuff from him and others. He said the only thing that got physical was when he tried to walk past Janell in the hallway he brushed up against her. The officer asked what caused the banging noises reported by the neighbor. Samuel advised they were slamming a door. The officer informed Samuel that it did not sound like a domestic case unless Janell said something else happened.
Another officer spoke with Samuel's father (Patrick) who advised that Samuel and Janell got into a yelling match but nothing got physical. The officer then spoke with Janell who also said nothing physical happened and that the argument started over food stamps and because she spent over $20 on pizza, soda, and pringles. The officer also asked her what the banging noise was reported by the neighbor. Janell stated that it was a door slamming.
Due to everyone's story being similar, officers determined that nothing physical had occurred and that it was not a domestic dispute. Officers informed Samuel and Janell that due to them being loud enough that a neighbor had to call them in, that they would both be receiving a disorderly conduct citation. An officer explained to Samuel if he wanted Janell out of the residence that he would have to go through court and have her evicted as it was her residence as well. Janell decided to leave for a bit to cool off and make sure that the argument was not going to continue when she returned. Samuel and Janell were advised to text each other before Janell came back to make sure they were both ok with it. Samuel and Janell were both found guilty for Disorderly Conduct and ordered to pay a $263 fine.
