A classic cold core tornado setup is expected to take place in Illinois today, where the SPC has outlined an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5). Storms should develop near the surface low by early afternoon, posing a risk for a few tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail. A strong tornado or two is possible as the storms move east.
