For educational purposes only. If you live in the affected areas, please stay tuned to your local National Weather Service office for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

The SPC has outlined an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) for parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes regions today. Supercells are expected to fire along an outflow boundary across central Iowa this afternoon, quickly growing upscale into a potent MCS with potential bowing structure. Significant damaging winds will be the main threat as the MCS barrels east, impacting places such as the Chicago metro area, but a few tornadoes embedded in the line are also possible. If the line persists for long enough, a derecho is possible.
