Horror fans have been eating so good in 2026 with so many awesome horror titles being released. And today we add another instant classic with the remake of Fatal Frame 2. The second entry in the franchise is regarded as the best by many and I actually recently archived the original on the channel. And though the story, setting and creepiness were amazing, it did have dated controls and pacing.
This remake improves upon every aspect of the original and is absolutely the best way to experience this story. You play as Mio who goes to a seemingly abandoned Japanese village with her twin sister Mayu. During your adventure you will learn of the village's interesting history and a horrible ritual that always involves twin sisters or brothers.
The town is absolutely fantastic to look at and now that the camera is in third person, you get even more immersed and familiar with all the areas. You will need to solve puzzles and of course battle evil spirits with the famous Camera Obscura. The game forces you to confront the ghosts as you need to be up close and personal to get the best shots.
There is a lot to explore and discover thanks to a redesigned upgrade system where you have to find prayer beads all over the town. Changes like limited ammo for your camera or different filters having new parameters are a welcome addition to keep things fresh and interesting as you feel motivated to find more items to upgrade your powers, ammo capacity and reload speed.
Probably my least favorite addition is the fact that the spirits can get enraged which lets them recover HP and makes their defense go way up. This feels more annoying than scary as it gets rid of some of your hard earned work as it recovers much of the damage you did to it.
The spirits themselves look scarier and better than ever and you will need to use many different tactics to fight each one in a optimal way. This remake is fantastic and is recommended for both veterans of the Fatal Frame games and also newcomers who have never held the Camera Obscura before.
