Today we finish archiving the Ratchet & Clank trilogy on the PlayStation 2. This can be considered the golden age of the action platformers and the Ratchet games have only gotten better and better with each title. Because this game goes even beyond the previous two and offers awesome new gameplay in the form of battle stages where you partake in large clashes that take part in multiple chapters. The first chapter often has you dropping in from orbit to secure a drop zone and chapter 2 revolves around heading deeper into enemy territory. Then chapter 3 might involve capturing a vehicle and taking out enemies and it all comes together in a final fight during the last chapter. These battle stages offer a nice variety from the regular platform levels and this time they are more colorful and varied than ever. There are some minigames including the 2D platform sections where you play as Captain Qwark and of course the times you get to play as a giant Clank and kick butt. Probably the weakest part is the lockpicking minigame, but other than that Ratchet & Clank 3 Up Your Arsenal is a golden standard for action platformers.
