The hack 'n slash genre is one of my favorite game genres and Ninja Gaiden can count itself as royalty amongst the many titles. The first Ninja Gaiden for the original Xbox was awesome, but I think they perfected their own formula with the sequel of Ninja Gaiden 2. Throughout the years many different versions of Ninja Gaiden 2 were released and in 2025 we received an Unreal Engine 5 remake in the form of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black.
I own both the original Ninja Gaiden 2 on the Xbox 360 and also Sigma on PC. Seeing the levels, enemies and bosses in all their glory in Unreal 5 was amazing and the gameplay was smooth and responsive as ever. The game is so rewarding for explorers and the many different weapons and upgrades keep things fresh and interesting.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is challenging, but never frustrating and is a great entrypoint in the Ninja Gaiden series and a must play for fans of action games.
