La Siesta is a modern classic created in 2006 by New York City bartender Katie Stipe at the now-closed Flatiron Lounge. I like to joke when people describe cocktails by saying it’s a classic, but with this instead of that and that instead of this, but honestly, it can be helpful to understand what we’re about to drink… as long as we actually know the reference.
In this case, describing La Siesta as a tequila-based Hemingway Daiquiri with Campari instead of maraschino makes sense, because the specs clearly mirror that structure. Flavor-wise though, I’d say it drinks closer to a short Paloma with a hint of Campari.
All that to say: it’s a tasty drink that fully deserves its “modern classic” label.
Cheers!
La Siesta
• 1.5 oz blanco tequila
• 0.75 oz simple syrup
• 0.75 oz lime juice
• 0.5 oz grapefruit juice
• 0.25 oz Campari
• Grapefruit zest garnish
