The Anchorage aka the fixed Alaska cocktail.
I don’t know if this is exactly what Sam Ross had in mind when he fixed the Alaska with the Anchorage, but here’s how I see it.
The Alaska is basically a gin martini with Yellow Chartreuse — but with some weird specs. It’s a four-to-one ratio of Chartreuse to gin, with nothing to balance the sweetness.

A real martini, on the other hand, is usually closer to a five-to-one ratio of spirit to vermouth.

So what he did here is smart: he takes the gin and Yellow Chartreuse and treats them as the base — about five parts total — then adds one part fino sherry, which steps in as the vermouth.

And because fino sherry is bone dry and brings a touch of acidity, it perfectly balances the sweetness of the Yellow Chartreuse.
The result is a properly balanced, martini-style cocktail.
Anchorage Recipe
2 oz Gin
0.5 oz Yellow Chartreuse
0.5 oz Fino Sherry
2 Dashes Orange bitters
