The Cordillera Blanca, or 'White Mountain Range,' located near the city of Huaraz in Peru, is the tallest mountain range in the world within the tropics. It boasts more than 30 glacier-covered peaks over 6,000 meters (19,700 feet) high and over a hundred turquoise glacial lakes. Huaraz serves as the primary base for exploring the Cordillera Blanca, with most visitors arriving by tour bus. In this video, we drive an SUV from Lima to Huaraz to explore this Andean mountaineering paradise. Visiting the Cordillera Blanca presented us with many challenges and daily surprises, but we were rewarded with some of the most spectacular alpine landscapes in the world.
