Lake (Laguna) Parón is a stunning, high-altitude, turquoise-colored, glacial-fed lake. It is nestled in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru and lies within Huascarán National Park. Accessible via a scenic but rugged and narrow 25-mile dirt road from Caraz, this hairpin-turn-filled route climbs over 3,000 feet through an incredibly steep, granite-walled canyon. In this video, we drive to the point where a recent landslide has closed the road and camp on top of a ridge high above the lake. Overall, Lake Parón is a spectacular blend of soaring mountains, sparkling glacial waters, and alpine serenity that must be experienced to be fully appreciated.
