Hex Mountain is a peak that rises above the north side of Cle Elum Reservoir. Its windy summit offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains and all the way into the Kittitas and Teanaway Valleys. Forest Service Road 116 is now closed to the public, so you must take Forest Service Road 4305 to reach the trailhead. The trail is open to dirt bikes and traverses burnt forest for much of the way. However, it is easy to follow, and we saw no one all day. There is a 2,000'+ elevation gain in 3 ¾ miles with two short up-and-down sections, but for much of the route you are walking along the top of a ridge. This objective is a good workout where you may also find solitude.
