Laguna 69 is one of the most stunning hiking destinations in the Peruvian Andes. It is located in Huascarán National Park, within the Ancash region of Peru. It’s known for its striking turquoise waters, surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains and glacial landscapes. The lake is fed by glacial melt from the nearby 22,205-foot Huascarán Mountain, the highest peak in Peru.
In this video, we drive to the trailhead around midday to check out the Cebollapampa area, then head to a nearby resort where we rented a cabin. The next day, we arrive at the trailhead before sunrise, allowing us time to enjoy the hike to the lake in complete solitude. This is a very popular destination, but the crowds typically don’t begin to arrive at the lake until after 8:30 a.m.
Overall, the vivid turquoise color of the water—creating a surreal and mesmerizing contrast against the rugged mountain backdrop—makes this a must-see destination.
