Gobbler’s Knob Fire Lookout is perched on a rocky outcrop at 5,485 feet, making it the lowest of the four remaining fire lookouts in Mount Rainier National Park.
Despite its modest elevation compared to the others, it offers some of the most dramatic, immersive views of Mount Rainier—essentially placing you face-to-face with the mountain.
From the lookout’s vantage point, you can see Tahoma Glacier, Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, Mount Hood, the Olympic Mountains, and even the Goat Rocks on a clear day.
You can bike the Westside Road to the trailhead, located just 2.4 miles from the lookout. The trail itself is excellent and suitable for hikers of all ages and abilities.
Gobbler’s Knob is the perfect blend of history, natural beauty, and epic vistas. The route takes you through quiet forest, high meadows, and a serene lake before you finally emerge at a precariously perched lookout that delivers front-row, unobstructed views of Rainier and the Cascade panorama.
