A hot late-spring day can be a great time to head to the Bare Mountain fire lookout site. A refreshing creek crossing and beautiful waterfalls offer a perfect way to cool off. The trail isn’t crowded like so many others—we only saw one other hiker all day. From the summit, the views are fantastic, with Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, and Glacier Peak all visible. You'll need a high-clearance 4x4 to reach the trailhead, as Lenox Creek had overflowed its banks about two miles before the trailhead, creating deep ruts and rough, rocky sections. Overall, this hike is a great way to escape the crowds and enjoy some splendid mountain scenery.
