At 6,011 feet, Noble Knob is known for some of the best unobstructed views of Mount Rainier in the region — though Rainier stayed hidden in clouds during our hike.
Below the ridge, tucked into a meadow-filled cirque, George Lake offers a quieter counterpoint: a small alpine lake ringed with rocky shores, perfect for lunch and a cooling swim.
Trail No. 1184 was hit hard by blowdowns last winter. WTA crews were clearing them during our hike — about 100 trees down, roughly 2,000 to go. On our return, we hiked FS 7222-1 to bypass most of the debris.
Blowdowns aside, this is an easy-to-moderate hike and a great slice of Pacific Northwest beauty.
