There are great moments in life, and then there are those peak experiences where everything lines up immaculately. Last Saturday at 5:50pm in the Sahara tent at Coachella was about as good as it gets.
Being a founder of a curated music discovery platform, one might suggest that you can decipher who my favorite artists are based on how many times they've been featured. If this is true, then CloZee is at the very top of my list, with "Varshaver" being her 5th Rock With This spotlight.
So there I was, seeing one of my favorite artists for my very FIRST time, smack dab in the middle of potentially the greatest place to take in an electronic music set in the world, with some of my favorite people on earth, while being kissed by the sun and tickled by the breeze. Fucking beautiful.
And then just when you think things can't get any grander...out comes Will Magid a.k.a. Balkan Bump ripping his trumpet. Not even knowing these two were homies, it was so fun watching this sweet dude, who we sat with over coffee a few months back, absolutely tear it up. The smiles on both Will and Chloé's faces was a beautiful sight to see especially when they busted out their new collab "Varshaver" which shows off their collective prowess in all its glory. BTW, "varshaver" is yiddish slang for the city "Warsaw" (in Poland) and the song is based off of an old Klezmer Melody which likely originated in the Jewish Ghettos of Warsaw. Gotta love the influence Will brings to a track! Also featured on the track are Haluk Kecelioglu (oud), Morgan Nilsen (clarinet), and Teddy Raven (sax).
Some artists get praise they don't fully deserve while others, who more than deserve it, simply don't get enough. These two are well on their way to receiving every bit of love they deserve.
