Ladies and Gentleman! Welcome to my Breath Of Fire 3 Challenge Run where i will be playing the vanilla game so no hard mode or anything but with condition that i am only allowed to use the “item” command to damage enemies unless of course i cant do that like in the beginning portion of the game. The idea for this run was actually thanks to @protoshield an amazing twitch streamer who like me also plays mainly retro and likes to do challenge runs (he also uploads his VODs here in YT) for many different games. I also will be playing with the added challenge where for the entire run, i have to kill every enemy in the game at least once and this can be done at any point. Part 1 of my run will begin from the intro of the game all the way till the Balio and Sunder fight. The first portion of the game is actually kinda rough in this challenge as the only damaging item that you have access to is Molotov which casts the basic Flare spell that Teepo starts with. The other obvious problem is of course Zenny as for me to even start the run, i need to stock up on Molotovs and you start with no Zenny so how can you even begin the run? In Cedar Woods near Bunyan house, theres a pond where you can get a literal infinite amount of Croc Tears which is an item that restores 5 HP with a 30% to cure poison, Blind, Sleep and confusion so thanks to emulation unlimited speed, i can get 99 of those a bunch of times and sell then to start the run. For the very beginning i will be focusing on progression as I want to get to the first Master Mygas as soon as possible as since using those items you are still technically casting a spell, your Intelligence obviously will affect their damage making INT the most important stat for this run. One thing however that i cannot fully control is character Reprisal. Outside of Nina and Momo later on, everyone in the beginning can Reprisal with Rei at a 6% chance and both Teepo and Ryu at 12% so being constantly apprenticed to a Master that lowers Attack at level ups will be my to mitigated this problem while also equipping the worst possible weapon which most of then have very little weight but of course i wont be equipping something to just nerf me like the Bent Sword which is actually weaker then a Dagger but really heavy. The only way i can cancel out Reprisals is with the “Examine” command as it lowers Reprisal to 0% while increasing their dodge by 25% but i wont always try to go for it as Defending is just better and if a Reprisal happens it happens. Because i am only allowed to use the “Item” command, this causes some complications with the first one being stealing is off the table so i must rely on those same items being dropped on top of their actual drops if lucky. Also this limitation basically wont allow me to easily farm EXP early game as i cannot Blind the Goo enemies for their increased EXP gain. The other problem at the beginning also comes into the amount of Molotovs that you use in a battle versus the Zenny payout so in the beginning run from most fights. Once spring comes and fishing is available, theres where i can farm for zenny by fishing and selling said fish especially the Rainbow Trouts as they sell for a respectable amount of Zenny and AP restoration is literally useless in this run. This run will require ALOT of fishing which will mostly be done off-screen but i will still fish on screen to get the new fish at least once. Since i my first run i explored a lot specially for the various NPCs dialogues, this run i will be mainly focused on the gameplay so while the videos might be longer, you will see that i will progress faster in less parts also. Like the previous run i will be detailing some strategies and some concerns that might arise in this run just like i did in my first run.
