No one likes a surprise unless it’s edible. Do not spring your video project on the board of your nonprofit, and definitely don’t show them an unexpected result.
The best way to get buy-in from the board or leadership of your Catholic organization is to prepare them, then follow-through with those plans.
Here’s what that looks like.
Long before you actually want their approval, start talking about the power of video and how it will help you achieve your mission. Send them statistics and examples. One of our clients forwarded our newsletter for about a year before he actually asked the powers that be if he could start a video project.
Then, do your homework. Write out who the video is targeting and what you want them to do. Then outline how that would concretely impact your mission. Sketch out a few plans so they know what it would look like, and even include a quote or two from videographers.
Finally, once you get approval, track the success of your video. Follow its numbers and trace its concrete impact on your mission. One success will open the door to much faster approvals, or even a carte blanche, in the future.
