If you want the easiest frozen chicken recipe you can make in a rice cooker, this might be the best one on YouTube.
In today’s video, I test something that surprised even me — turning a solid, rock-hard, completely frozen chicken thigh into one of the most flavorful meals I’ve ever made in my Aroma ARC-914SBD rice cooker, the most popular rice cooker on Amazon.
I kept this recipe incredibly simple. I dropped two frozen chicken thighs (skin-on, bone-in) straight into the bottom of the cooker, added onion flakes, parsley, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, pepper, ¼ cup of white wine, ½ cup of water, and a splash of barbecue sauce for extra flavor.
In the steamer basket above, I added a cubed russet potato seasoned with parsley and Italian herbs, and a generous handful of shredded cabbage, which has become one of my favorite vegetables to steam.
I cooked everything on the regular rice setting for about an hour — and the results shocked me:
• The chicken was moist, tender, and full of flavor, with a little natural gravy in the bottom.
• The potatoes were soft but not mushy.
• The cabbage steamed perfectly and added a fresh, sweet flavor to the meal.
The amazing thing is that this entire dish started with a solid frozen ball of chicken — no thawing, no marinating, almost no prep. Just season, stack the ingredients, press a button, and eat.
