How do you keep a small tube of Krazy Glue alive after you've opened it?
These inexpensive little tubes are great to have around—but once they're opened, the tip can clog and the glue can eventually harden. Instead of throwing the tube away, I use four simple storage tricks to help keep the glue usable for a long time.
In this video I show you how I:
• Tap the tube to help move the glue back down inside.
• Lightly oil a toothpick, wipe off the excess, and use it to seal the tip. Before inserting it, I make sure there isn't excess glue sitting in the top of the tube. I also show alternatives such as electrical tape or clear Gorilla Glue.
• Store the tube upright in a sealed bag in a cool, dry place.
• Add orange silica gel desiccant to help remove moisture from the sealed bag. The orange silica gel has an advantage over desiccant packets from food products because you can see when it has become saturated—it changes color.
This isn't really about saving the cost of a $1.25 tube of glue. It's about having glue available when you need it and not having to throw away a tube simply because it has been opened. If supplies ever become difficult to find because of shortages, supply-chain problems, or other circumstances, keeping what you already have usable could be surprisingly helpful.
Some of these storage ideas can also be useful with other types of glue.
