Batman Bloodstorm continues the tale of the vampiric Batman. After foiling a mugging, Batman finds evidence that they had indeed not managed to destroy the vampiric infestation, staking the latest victim to ensure she doesn't become one of them. He returns home where Alfred serves him Tanya's serum, Bruce admitting it's beginning to lose its potency, and also shows him the perfect vampire killing tool, which Bruce tells him to make as many of as he can. Meanwhile, Gordon investigates the seeming ritualistic murders, knowing but unable to say it was the work of Batman foiling vampiric converts. The two meet the following night, Gordon expressing his concern, but Batman says it won't stop until they're all extinguished, and he may need Gordon's help if he can't quell the numbers fast enough, Gordon reluctantly agreeing to form a team to combat vampires himself. Later, we see a mysterious figure intentionally seeking out the undead legions, finding them in a sewer, and revealing himself to be The Joker, who convinces them to accept him as their new leader and take full advantage of their potential, including taking down Batman. They prove their new might as they attack and vampirize one of Gotham's crime families, giving them the wealth and prestige to establish a presence in the city. Batman later confronts the newly undead gang, rejoicing in the strength his vampiric abilities give him. But the mob boss Cardona points out how hypocritical he is now, being willing to kill even if he insists they're already dead, while taunting him with the temptation to drink actual blood. Batman finally kills him, but is clearly shaken by Cardona's words, realizing how alone he is in his struggle. Meanwhile, Selena Kyle is pursued and bitten by a vampire, but manages to escape and return home before more damage is done. But since it bit her while in beast form, that's also what Selena is changed into, also pledging herself to the extinction of vampires. Joker and his gang continue their takeover, indoctrinating every crime family in Gotham, before Joker announces he's taking his empire global. Batman is finally able to track down one of the vampirized crime bosses at a strip club and prevent him from turning one of the dancers, where he also discovers The Joker, who I guess he already knows in this universe, and theorizes he's the head honcho. Selena ambushes Batman as he flies through Gotham, but after a quick scuffle, find they're on the same side. Selena offers to join up with Batman, but he refuses her help and pushes her away. He tries to improve the blood substitute, but can't find a method fast enough for his ever increasing thirst, which he theorizes is because he was additionally bitten by Dracula and thus inherited his unquenchable bloodlust. He checks with Ariane about werecreatures, but is unsatisfied by the answer. He then asks about how to control his thirst, but she's also unable to figure out a cure and he leaves before he becomes really violent. He tries to quarantine himself to avoid hurting Alfred, but after eating a rat, realizes he needs the help of others and, as a last resort, tracks down Selena. She takes him home with her, where he finds most of his bloodlust has subsided, possibly thanks to finding a distraction from his bestial side.
