As Johnny obsesses over his documentary on Tex, the senator reveals to the public his new team of Soviet-fighting protectors, comprised of The Atom, Robotman, and Daniel, who's been deemed the subject of the new supersoldier program. Libby and Jonathan express their concerns about this to each other, further demonstrating their marriage isn't a happy one. Meanwhile, Johnny meets back up with Ted in his observatory, who reveals it's not the bomb he's most guilty about, but that he inadvertently created the superbeing as a whole, accidentally drawing in cosmic radiation from space that rained across the world. Johnny doesn't believe him, but Ted doesn't mind as he continues to work on his theories. Alan is left reeling after one of his best writers offs himself, likely after being blacklisted for supposed communist ties, before then being notified one of his former enemies, the Sportsmaster, is robbing a nearby jewelry store. Alan decides to handle the matter himself, however, he doesn't use his ring, and while he's still a competent fighter, Sportsmaster shoots him in the arm and makes his escape, Alan brushing everything off as just being human. At the testing facility, Daniel is bombarded with immense radiation to grant him superabilities, the scientists unable to get a clear reading if it was a success as his pod opens. At Tex's headquarters, the military try to escort a man out, when the room suddenly explodes in lightning. Pratt arrives, realizing the man is Johnny Thunder and his lightning-powered genie Thunderbolt, who are desperate to become heroes again, Pratt reluctantly inducting them into the team. It's later shown that Tex's experiments were a success, as Daniel has become the ultra-powered hero Dynaman, pledging to protect American ideals while taking the fight to anyone who would dare oppose them. Later, Tex meets with and asks for campaign contributions from oil tycoon Lance Gallant, who continues to be haunted by Michael, his brother's spirit that combines to turn him into Captain Triumph, and whom Lance wants nothing to do with. Rex continues to work on his pill, finally managing to get the effects back to an hour, but when he feels fear, it causes him to trip out, Rex knowing he'll never stop working on the pill because becoming Hourman is what he's actually addicted to. Later, in 1948, Tex announces he's now inducting reformed villains into his team, starting with the Tigress Paula Brooks. Who Lance instantly falls in love with, though the feeling's not mutual. During a road trip, Bob Daley stops at a truck stop, where he recognizes Kirk working as a mechanic, his name also sparking faint recognition in Kirk's memory. Kirk tells him he can't remember anything before suddenly waking up in Germany after seemingly being killed, but he has this instinct that someone wants him dead. And he wants to get help, but can't trust anybody or put them in danger. Bob of course takes Kirk with him to see what can be done, but they're soon pursued by a mysterious car that opens fire on them. Kirk instinctively jumps out of Bob's truck and leaps over to the hitmen, smashing through their window and sending the car over a bridge into the icy river below. Bob runs down to the river, fearing the worst, but Kirk launches himself out of the ice and Bob pulls him to shore. And later, Tex tells Daniel, who's become an addict, that he plans to rule America when he becomes president in 1952. Only for Daniel to retort that they'll have taken out Russia and China before then, and soon they'll actually rule the world. The results next issue.
