Dawn of the Eds is a fan-favorite episode, and it's easy to see why. The Eds find out about a space movie they want to see, but it's only for adults, so they theorize what it's about. As they do, they find themselves in the junkyard, where they start playacting their space fantasy, pretending they're astronauts stranded on a hostile world, and just having fun with the idea. And that's a good description of this episode. Fun. Not fun-NY, but it's interesting just watching these kids imaginations run wild. Especially Ed, whose grasp on reality would slip into basically this throughout the show. The best part is where Ed's explaining the movie's setup, and they ignorantly travel through real-world equivalents as he does, like a swinging wrecking ball when he mentions an asteroid field. And the rest of the episode is literally just watching them play. ...Yeah, it does start to get boring, and you're waiting for a point that never comes. In fact, the episode seems to get tired of itself, since the characters eventually give up and go home. Yeah, it's another plot that just ends, but there's at least a reason. So while it's not one of my favorite episodes, I can see why it is for others. It's exciting to see the world through someone else's eyes, especially imaginative little kids. And I like they establish a few locations that would be recurring settings throughout the series. Also, this is one of the rare times the Kankers are scared off, so that's a big plus too.
