Our '64 Falcon has fresh tires and clean wheels — but what good is a classic Ford that won't idle? In this one, we chase down a no-idle problem the hard way, and I do mean the hard way. Three days. Carburetor off and on more times than I can count. And the culprit turned out to be the one part I'd already cleaned.

If your classic Ford won't idle, this is your troubleshooting roadmap. We walk through it step by step so you can find YOUR problem, whether it's fuel or spark:
• The carb choke cleaner test — is it a carburetor problem or an ignition problem?
• Pertronix ignition voltage checks — why you need a full 12 volts on run (and why points can get away with 10–11)
• Matching your coil to your Pertronix unit — run a Pertronix 3? You need a Pertronix 3 coil. Every time.
• Checking voltage at the battery, starter solenoid, and coil positive
• Ford firing order and distributor rotation — the stuff that'll drive you nuts on a mystery engine
• Idle adjustment screws, transfer slots, idle bleeds, and how to clean an orifice with a guitar string
• Autolite / Motorcraft 2100 & 4100 tear-down: power valve, main jets, emulsion tubes, and those annular discharge boosters
• Setting idle timing with a vacuum gauge for the happiest engine

Everybody loves to give carburetors a bad rap — but they ran fine for 60 years, and so does this one once you find the gremlin. Stick around to the end for the full three-day story and the fix that finally planed the idle out.

Big thanks to our sponsors AutoKrafters and Modern Driveline for keeping the madness rolling.
