![Cheap tricks for a Clean Wiring Install on Your Classic Car
Last week we neatened up the charging system and set it up for our CVF Racing serpentine belt system. This week we deal with the leftovers — the wiring somebody else left behind in this engine bay — and turn a tangle of mismatched harness into something that looks like it belongs.
This isnt a jot-and-tittle, every-wire walkthrough. Its the tips and tricks that make the difference: start with a plan, drape and route your wires toward where they actually need to land, and decide up front where things like corrugated loom belong (and where they dont). We work through the American Autowire engine harness, the VSS leads for a future speed-sensor setup, and the runs out to the water temperature and oil pressure senders — leaving access for whatever Kylie may want to add down the road.
Along the way we run into the usual first vexation of any classic-car project: figuring out what the last fellow cobbled together and why. In this case its the wire feeding the start circuit at the starter solenoid — a small thing that tells you everything about how the car was wired before it got here.
What came in as a fifteen-minute, four-bolt transmission job on this 67 Mustang turned into a tour through every system — suspension, transmission, engine, and interior. Kylies ready to drive it, and so are we. It just takes a few more careful tweaks like this one.
Our thanks to National Parts Depot for helping keep these classic Fords on the road. If this helped with your own build, consider supporting the shop through our Patreon — that support goes straight to the kids who turn wrenches with us on Saturdays.
