Making a no-weld floor patch on Kylee's 1967 Mustang fastback — cleaning, fitting, and panel bonding a patch.

What started as a simple transmission swap on this 1967 Mustang has turned into a full-systems restoration — we've touched suspension, engine, interior, electrical, and now we're dealing with a rusted-through section of the floor pan. This episode walks through how I tackle that kind of rot when welding new metal to old rust isn't going to work — and when, honestly, I'm not the world's best welder to begin with.

We cover the cleaning techniques that matter most before any bonding: getting down past the surface rust, dealing with what's left, and prepping both sides of the joint so the adhesive actually grips. Then we make the patch panel — measuring, templating, trimming — and start fitting it in place with 3M 8115 panel bonding adhesive. Panel bonding is a technique most restoration channels skip in favor of welding, but for floor patches on a 1967–68 Mustang (and most '60s–'70s unibody platforms with the same kind of rust-through), it's a legitimate, factory-approved approach when done right.
You'll also see how the job ended early — the can of 3M 8115 ran out mid-job, and the one paint store that carries it isn't open on Saturdays. Real shop life. The repair gets finished in the next episode.

If you're working on a 1967 or 1968 Mustang (fastback, coupe, or convertible) with floor rot — or any classic Ford or Mercury unibody with similar floor pan issues — the cleaning, templating, and adhesive technique here applies almost directly to your car.

It’s not a Problem, It’s a Project!
