The RECCO reflector clips to your pack and weighs almost nothing. It's a passive copper antenna with a diode that reflects radar signals back to SAR teams equipped with RECCO detectors, handheld or aircraft-mounted. No batteries, no maintenance, just works. I used to think RECCO was only for avalanche country, but I've seen it deployed more often in California, Utah, and other western states during hiking rescues. It's not a replacement for an inReach or PLB, but it's a lightweight backup layer. If you're unconscious or unable to press SOS, SAR can still find you if they're running RECCO radar. For a few bucks and a couple grams, it's worth clipping on.
