I use a layered navigation setup that splits tasks across devices instead of forcing one tool to do everything. Gaia GPS handles pre-hike planning and map layers. On the trail, my Apple Watch shows live stats and waypoints without pulling out my phone. For detailed route checks or if I drift off trail, I pull up Gaia on my phone. After the hike, I export the GPX and share it. This approach keeps navigation simple, batteries lasting longer, and my phone in my pack most of the day.
